Recently Accredited JTAC Training Solution Harnesses Power of Bohemia Interactive Simulations’ Image Generator Technology

May 10, 2018

Farnborough, UK — Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim), a global developer of advanced simulation and training software, supported leading domain expert Nautilus International Risk Consultants in achieving JALO (Joint Air Land Organisation) accreditation using the Holovis International JTAC 240° Dome.

The UK MOD’s JALO is the UK MOD’s Defence Champion for Air/Land Integration and is responsible for assuring the UK’s Forward Air Controller capability, including the setting of training standards. The Holovis JTAC 240° dome enables qualified JTACs to operate and train in a complex environments; more importantly, the JTACs can train as they fight.

Using the Holovis 240° dome, Nautilus has been accredited for Type 1, 2 and 3 controls, night CAS, laser operations, low level, bomb on coordinate, Fixed Wing/Rotary Wing and Video Downlink Link - all in accordance with the JTAC Currency Requirements Table.

The Holovis International JTAC 240° Dome incorporates a hard-shell, 4-meter seamless dome with a 3-channel visual display system. Holovis' PixControl auto-alignment software fine tunes the warp and blend. Nautilus provided accredited SME JTAC Pilot's and JTAC-specific emulated equipment as part of the overall solution, such as the LF28 Laser Target Designator, PLRF 25 Laser Range Finder and untethered IZLID IR pointer. Nautilus also provided Harris Communications 152 Radios and downlink receivers including C2 Situational Awareness software, running on Android smart phones to allow for accurate target correlation.

The system also incorporates Bohemia Interactive Simulations’ VBS3-based image generation product VBS IG and SimCentric Technologies' newest version of VBS Fires FST.

Within this fully accredited system, the JTAC is able to conduct six out of their 12 mandatory controls in the simulator. With the ever increasing requirement for a JTAC to train within a Fire Support Team (FST), the size and clarity offered will allow a full FST to train together, simulating their jobs that they would do on the battlefield to conduct complex Joint Fires missions in a safe but realistic manner.

“BISim’s image generation technology is robust and has matured as our team of software engineers have worked extensively with integrators and military customers to support them with high-fidelity VBS IG technology for a variety of training applications from close air support to convoy operations,” said Oliver Arup, BISim’s Vice President, Product Management. “We’ve leveraged that experience and incorporated improvements in technology from VBS IG into our new image generator VBS Blue IG, which is a 3D planetary simulation that is cloud-enabled, geo-specific with round-earth procedural rendering and editing. We anticipate VBS Blue IG will achieve similar accreditation in the coming months.”

The Holovis JTAC 240° dome will be on display at ITEC 2018, Europe’s premier conference and exhibition for the military and simulation training market, at Stand C26. Visit BISim’s stand D40 at ITEC 2018 to see the latest from Bohemia Interactive Simulations and SimCentric Technologies.
