ORLANDO, Florida (USA) — Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim), a global developer of advanced military simulation and training software, has released updates to VBS Blue IG, BISim’s high-performance, CIGI-compliant, 3D whole-earth image generator, and VBS IG SDK, a set of APIs and tools for IG developers to customize or extend VBS Blue IG. The updates introduce a brand new development environment and provide more APIs to allow integrators to tailor VBS Blue IG to their needs. VBS Blue IG and VBS IG SDK are part of BISim’s highly integrated, modular and extensible portfolio of products.
VBS BLUE IG UPDATES
VBS Blue IG is a high-performance, standards-based, 3D whole-earth image generator providing day/dusk/night scenes across multiple synchronized displays to support the full spectrum of land, sea, and air use cases. Supporting out-the-window, infrared, and night vision scenes, VBS Blue IG leverages video-game technologies to bring AAA game graphics to military simulation and training.
VBS Blue IG includes a baseline, geo-specific global terrain that is procedurally enhanced based on real-world metadata. Developers have the option to blend the procedural content with satellite imagery, high-resolution terrain, and additional geo-specific features to enhance areas of special interest.
This update, VBS Blue IG v18.2, offers stability and performance improvements as well as several new features and enhancements. VBS Blue IG v18.2 includes support for multiple GPUs to improve performance. This allows users to set VBS Blue IG to use different GPUs for separate tasks, such as assigning one GPU to handle scene rendering while assigning another to handle terrain refinement.
The latest version of VBS Blue IG includes a plugin for Scalable, providing a native solution for blending and warping for customers using Scalable Display SDK products. VBS Blue IG also features a GUI where CIGI Protocol and VBS3 Host settings can be modified and saved at runtime. VBS Blue IG v18.2 also improves software support for multichannel synchronization.
VBS IG SDK UPDATES
VBS IG SDK allows developers to customize and extend VBS Blue IG by providing a framework and suite of tools. It includes a library of APIs and source code, allowing developers to customize virtually every aspect of VBS Blue IG and produce custom applications. The APIs form a modular plug-in architecture that enables developers to integrate third-party technologies effectively and efficiently.
VBS IG SDK v18.2 features new tools and new APIs for customizing and extending VBS Blue IG. The update includes the first release of Gears Studio Professional Edition. Gears Studio is a development environment to facilitate the development of products, components, and APIs within a framework intended to avoid common pitfalls and to automate common tasks encountered in software development. Gears Studio is based on BISim’s modular Gears development framework, which uses a component-based architecture to promote rapid development by building applications from self-contained systems and having them communicate via formally defined interfaces. This allows functionality to be reused and avoids the complexity of tightly coupled systems.
VBS IG SDK v18.2 includes new APIs for controlling weather states, damage states, entity thermal factors and lights. It also includes new APIs for enabling custom handling of CIGI Packets and for creating/controlling canvases upon which 2D primitives can be drawn. BISim is providing new sample plugins and source code demonstrating control of VBS model animations and the DirectX11-based Rendering Listener Interface.
