The Black Hawk Aircrew Trainer leverages BISim’s VBS Blue IG for unprecedented realism and immersion
The Black Hawk Aircrew Trainer (BAT), a state-of-the-art UH-60 flight training device developed by the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center (AvMC), has recently undergone significant enhancements to its visual simulation capabilities with BISimTM technology. The new development aims to address the evolving training needs of future aviators, featuring an advanced out-the-window (OTW) rendering solution with higher graphical fidelity and stability. The integration of BISim's VBS Blue IG product has provided the BAT with a more immersive and realistic training environment, allowing pilots to better prepare for real-world flying challenges. With this update, the BAT establishes itself as a game-changer in aviation simulation, delivering unprecedented visual feedback and immediate value to aviators.

Meeting the challenge of emerging requirements
The BAT project faced significant challenges in meeting the evolving training needs of future aviators. The requirement for a more advanced OTW rendering solution was paramount, with higher graphical fidelity, visual effects, and rendering stability being essential to providing a complete, immersive experience.

Stability and realism are built-in
To overcome these challenges, the BAT team turned to BISim's VBS Blue IG product, which offered a high-performance architecture capable of accurately rendering the complex and unique environments encountered by rotary-winged aircraft. The integration of VBS Blue IG and TerraTools enabled a more expeditious development cycle for detailed and complex terrains crucial for realism and aviator immersion. Further, it has provided AvMC with an agile system architecture to meet current and future requirements.

BISim Support every step of the way
BISim's involvement proved invaluable, providing a well-defined product, accompanied by detailed documentation that facilitated an accelerated integration schedule. BISim engineers offered support throughout the development process, from integration and new-feature roadmaps to performance optimization and terrain and cultural feature development.

Blue IG is a game-changer. From the details of the individual trees or clouds to the fidelity of the terrain environments, the visual feedback is unprecedented. This is a tangible impact and an immediate value-add for the aviator
