BISim Supports MBDA on Land 400 Missile Training Systems

Feb 26, 2018

WILLIAMTOWN, New South Wales (Australia) — Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim), a global developer of advanced military training and simulation software, is supporting MBDA Australia in developing a training system for the MMP missile for the Australian Defence Force’s Project: Land 400.

Land 400 is the largest vehicle acquisition project ever undertaken by the ADF and is intended to enhance the mounted close combat capability of the Australian Army. MBDA is offering its MMP medium-range missile as part of the $20 billion project. The MMP is the only fifth generation anti-tank guided weapon that is in production and in service today, according to MBDA.

BISim, founded in Australia in 2001, is working together with MBDA to scope requirements for a crew procedural trainer for the MMP missile system. The Australian Defence Force began using BISim’s flagship simulation software Virtual Battlespace in 2003 and the latest version VBS3 is used extensively across ADF branches of service for a wide variety of training uses.

“MBDA has had great experiences working with BISim and VBS3,” said MBDA Australia Managing Director Andy Watson. “BISim and VBS3 are natural choices for partnering on missile system training for Land 400.”

BISim has previously worked together with MBDA on other simulation and training projects. For example, in the United Kingdom, BISim worked with MBDA to model Brimstone missile testing using VBS3 and BISim’s image generation software VBS IG for experimentation and demonstration purposes.

“VBS3’s flexibility as a development platform enables us to simulate all kinds of complex systems and procedures,” said Ryan Stephenson, BISim Australia’s Managing Director. “We are pleased to join with MBDA to offer the Australian Army leading-edge technologies to enhance their future training capabilities.”

VBS3 is a comprehensive desktop training package based on commercial gaming technology. It simulates all aspects of the modern battlespace to help trainees learn techniques, procedures and develop communication and decision-making skills.

VBS3 is ready-to-use out of the box and comes complete with offline and runtime scenario editors, after-action review, a massive content library, developer tools, an easy-to-use interoperability gateway, and a voice communications system. It is by far the most widely used game-based simulation software among militaries today for hundreds of training uses.
