VBS3 to Power Simulation Projects for Major Australian Defence Contracts

Sep 04, 2018

ADELAIDE, Australia — Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim), a global developer of advanced military simulation and training software, announced at Land Forces 2018 that the company’s flagship software VBS3 will serve as the core simulation software for three major defence simulation projects supporting the Australian Defence Force (ADF) under the following programs: L200-2 BMS (Battle Management System), Land 400 Phase 2 (Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle), and the Weapon Training Simulation System.

“The ADF is making historic investments in new equipment and technologies to train, support and protect our troops. BISim is honored to be selected to deliver its advanced simulation and training software to increase the readiness of the Commonwealth’s service members,” said Ryan Stephenson, BISim Australia’s Managing Director. “With our company’s origins in Australia, BISim has a long history of supporting the ADF as well as working with prime contractors like Rheinmetall, Elbit and Meggitt around the world to develop innovative simulation and training solutions.”

Land L200-2 BMS

BISim was selected to provide engineering and support services to Elbit Systems of Australia for the integration of BISim’s VBS3 software to support the training and exercising of Elbit’s Battle Management System (BMS) as part of Land 200-2. Elbit’s BMS will enable a collaborative approach to complex warfighting throughout Army, and VBS enables the training of complex warfighting through its extensive representation of friendly, allied and opposition force capabilities.

With this capability, Australian Army, Special Forces and Royal Australian Air Force elements equipped with BMS will be able to practice tactics, techniques and procedures through an integrated BMS simulation environment. This integrated environment will allow users to have a first-person view of the complex battlespace and BMS situational awareness while also receiving and giving information and orders through the BMS. Visit Elbit to see their BMS at stand 2P7 at Land Forces.

Land 400 Phase 2

VBS3 was also selected as one of the products used in the training solution for the Land 400 Phase 2 training system. Project Land 400 is the Australian Army’s largest-ever project to modernise its armored reconnaissance vehicle. Rheinmetall Defence Australia recently signed a contract with the Commonwealth for LAND 400 Phase 2 to deliver its Boxer 8x8 Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle (CRV) and associated support and training.

VBS3 is expected to be used in a number of areas of the training system for Land 400, providing greater support for simulation for individual and collective training across the training continuum. Visit Rheinmetall at stand 1T5 during Land Forces.

Weapon Training Simulation System

The upgrade of the ADF’s Weapon Training Simulation System (WTSS) supplied by Meggitt Training Systems Australia is underway and will include the latest version of VBS3. This upgrade will enable greater support for training complex warfighting and offer more options for collective training, such as a mix of desktop simulation and WTSS. VBS3 will be used to generate the complex scenarios that can be displayed across up to three screens in a WTSS and supports the full range of weapons. The WTSS is used for training at 18 ADF locations around the country. The capability can be viewed on Meggitt’s stand 2P2 at the Land Forces 2018 conference.

“The selection of VBS3 for these major projects represents a significant, long-term investment in BISim technology by the ADF and our industry partners,” Stephenson said. “We appreciate the faith and trust that they have placed in our technology and and we are committed to providing them with high-quality support services, cost-effective training solutions, and continuous innovation.”
